Ever since the first Splinter Cell I’ve been hooked to the series, but never really bothered too much about the single player. Multiplayer has always been the main reason I played the games.
Splinter Cell Double Agent is different. Not only is the single player divers and brings new elements with the trust system, but it also shows off some impressive graphics and good AI.
I started my first playthrough on hard which made it really difficult on the last few missions, starting with the cruise ship and there on, but I’m glad I’ve done it as it forced me to play the game a lot more stealthily than I would’ve done otherwise. And it was very satisfying to finally complete it after being stuck on the last mission for over 6 hours and restarting it.
The multiplayer has got me completely hooked. Both the Co-Op challenges and the Versus mode. The Versus mode is a lot simplified to Chaos theory with the spies only having a selection of 4 gadgets and no more stun gun and the mercs having one gun, 3 grenades and 2 spy drones. The maps are well thought out and offer the spies enough opportunities against the clearly more advanced mercs.
However, and this is a BIG however, I’ve experienced quite a few problems with this game and my 360. I’ve had about 50 odd crashes, some multiplayer related, some in the single player. My saves on one level were completely wiped and I had to restart it. Thankfully that was on the beginning of the levels. Ubisoft did release an AU after the game was out for 2 days which was meant to fix most issues. Well, I had about 90% of the issues after the AU. Hmmm….
All in all this has to be the best 360 game I have played since Oblivion. I’ll keep on playing the multiplayer for a good while, maybe until Rainbow Six Vegas comes out. :D
Edit: I’ve had so many people search for this, that I’ve created a seperate post on how to possible avoid crashes. You can find that here. Hope that helps. :D
