“Quadratisch. Praktisch. Gut.”

My grandma sent me a parcel this week containing my christmas present (which isn’t unpacked yet!) and she also included Ritter Sport Schokowuerfel. I kind of completely forgot that it existed, as you can’t seem to get it that well over here in the UK, but now it’s brought back memories, especially to the advertisement they used to run.

“Quadratisch. Praktisch. Gut.” literally translates to “Square. Practical. Good.” which is now a phrase used for everything in Germany.

Another advert, this time from ‘Media Markt‘ is “Ich bin doch nicht blöd” (I am not stupid!) which is as known in Germany, as ‘Tesco’s‘ “Every little helps”.

It is strange how much adverts are ‘influencing’ our lives. I’d like to say that I make any purchase decision without being influenced by adverts, but let’s face it, there are so many of them everywhere, it’s impossible. Like simply buying bread or butter or anything i tend to buy products that I have heard of before. How would I hear about them, other than word of mouth? Yes, that’s right advertisement.

Is that such a bad thing so? Does it really change my life if I buy a product, because it tells me it’s “Square. Practical. Good.”? Maybe it is, maybe there shouldn’t be advertisement, but some of them are just worth remembering. ;)

This is one of the new Media Markt ads in Germany, this had me laughing for a while.

Basically it all builds up to this guy who hasn’t been home for a while, the whole village is glad he’s back and his wife asks him where he’s been. He says he was at the office, doing overtime for the new TV. Cue the Tagline, I’m not stupid, you can get new TV’s much cheaper at Media Markt without spending all your life doing overtime. Brilliant advert!
