Star Trek – Deep Space Nine

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but I am quite a bit of a Star Trek fan. I used to watch it occasionally when I was younger, but in the last year I’ve pretty much seen every episode of Voyager, Deep Space 9 and the Next Generation. They are all pretty good and the Star Trek universe is a quite diverse one which is very, very well thought out.

As it so happens I am currently re watching Deep Space 9. At the moment I am in series 3 out of 7 and it really does get better all the time.

So what is Star Trek Deep Space 9 about?

Deep Space 9 is the name of a space station which is located next to a stable wormhole that leads all the way to the Gamma Quadrant, an almost undiscovered space. Throughout the seven series there is everything from wars to murders to people dying to conspiracies. It really is well worth watching.

There are currently many offers for Star Trek related boxsets in Virgin and HMV, so have a look and watch them!

Have you heard about the new net movie which is being done my Tim Russ (tuvok). There are loads of people who have appeared in the different series and it’s not made by a major film company, yet the FX are pretty decent.

It’s called Of Gods and Men and it will be released as 3 (30mins i think) sections over the next couple of months. Check out the trailer here:

I hadn’t heard of it, but it looks very good. Will have to keep my eyes open for this.

Didn’t realise you were into Star Trek, Matt?

Yeah, I saw that episode yesterday or the day before. It’s an absolute brilliant episode.

Deep Space 9 is my favourite one. The war with the Dominion, the character evolvement and the ‘bad guys’ are just brilliant. Gul Dukat is impressive.

Who is you favourite DS9 character then?

I always liked the Doctor. He was pretty much a n00b right at the beginning so it was fun to see him squirm when he talked to Garek.

Later on when he hung out with the chief all the time and was in the holodeck acting out his James bond esque fantasy’s i just used to find him hilarious.

It’s hard to say. I kind of like most of them.

Garak – He’s quality, evil, yet not and his character goes through a lot from losing his father, his gf to living in exile. He has some great moments and I love his sarcasm.

O’Brian – The most down to Earth Ds9 character. Although all the bad things happen to him. Literally:
    - He travels through time,
    - He is in a Cardassian prison,
    - He is in another prison where they make him believe he’s been there for 20 years,
    - He gets replaced by another person,
    - His wife is possessed by demons,
    - His daughter travels through time….
I really wouldn’t want his life.

Jadzia Dax – She is just a great character.

Quark – A brilliant actor and such a versatile character.

Bashir – I do like his James Bond like adventures and the episodes with him and O’Brian.

Have you seen the episode in the last series which is a bit like Oceans Eleven/Mission Impossible where they have to retake a Holosuite casino?
