Nationstates

A post made by drmike in the wordpress.com support forums made me realise that I haven’t logged into my Nationstates account in a very long time. Turns out that my account was disabled, but with a little help from Timethief it is now back up.

So what exactly is Nationstates?

Nationstates or rather ‘Jennifer Government: NationStates’ is a simulation game. Every player has a nation which starts with a population of 5 million and grows from there.

The player is presented with a set of issues every day or several times a week. These issues are very divers, range across all topics and don’t have a right or wrong answer. In addition most are very funny.

There is also an option to join the United Nations and vote on current issues. These decisions will also be implemented in all UN members nations.

After all the explanation, this is my rather big nation, the Democratic Republic of Carocat:

The Democratic Republic of Carocat is a huge, devout nation, remarkable for its strong anti-business politics. Its compassionate population of 540 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although the Environment and Social Equality are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 70%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

School uniforms are compulsory, political parties are banned from advertising and receiving private donations, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, and all industry is owned and run by the government. Crime — especially youth-related — is well under control. A ban on unsolicited cold calling in all forms is in effect, skateparks can be found in every city, government-run brothels can be found on every street corner, and pharmacies close down as medicinal drugs are sold freely by the government. Crime is relatively low. Carocat’s national animal is the cat, which frolics freely in the nation’s many lush forests, and its currency is the Gold.

Carocat is ranked 55,196th in the world for Highest Police Ratios.

I’ve just joined a new region with Collin as well. Feel free to join us at Euphoria. :)

Do you get to conquer other nations? If so I’d conquer yours first and rename it United Cats of Carocat. :D

    I want BROADBAND! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

You don’t conquer or trade or anything. All you do is rule your country Go and sign up, it doesn’t require Broadband and only a few minutes each day. :)

Wah! No conquering… still I might check it. It might not require broadband but it might require a net connection that doesn’t require a disconnect every 10 minutes or so! :P

[No avatars from now on.. i've finally bothered to log out]

Yep, I got your telegram and replied. Yeah, lucky/unlucky, it’s all the same really.

Cool game although takes ages…. for an avid RTS fan it is slow. By the time I’m in the middle league i would have conquered 20 or more nations in Age of Empires/ Rise of Nations / Warcraft…. :D

  16. Posted April 17, 2007 at 3:34 pm | Permalink

Well, it’s a different kind of game really. ;)

    “I want BROADBAND! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!”

I feel your pain, I used to be on dial up for ages (I only got broadband 3 months ago) :(

I’ve been playing this for a while. I’m ‘Johz’, although I used to be someone different. BTW, Cat, your nation’s died again.

Hi Johz, I haven’t actually played this since early 2008! It just sort of got lost amongst all the other things in my life. I might reactivate it one day, but I think I’d just forget about it at the moment!
