Avenue Q

I’ve been listening a lot to Avenue Q music lately. Avenue Q is a musical that has a very interesting story and very, very catchy songs. The story as taken from the official site:

AVENUE Q is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q; still, the neighbors seem nice. There’s Brian the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fianceé Christmas Eve; Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his roommate Rod — a Republican investment banker who seems to have some sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; and a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate. And would you believe the building’s superintendent is Gary Coleman?!? (Yes, that Gary Coleman.) Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

They aren’t normal actors though, all the characters are in fact puppets:

The cast of Avenue Q

I first heard of Avenue Q about a year ago when someone sent me a link to the The internet is for porn’ video which is at the end of this post. A word of warning, you will not be able to get the tune out of your head for a very long time.

What I find so refreshing about the Musical is that they are taking on today’s society and an intelligent way. The songs initially sound lighthearted, but they have a very deep meaning. Listen to ‘The internet is for Porn’ song which has found popularity on the internet when it was remade using characters from World of Warcraft:

I really want to go and see the show in London, so anyone reading this: My birthday is in May, how about giving me some tickets?! :P I didn’t think so….

Grab your **** and double click! I love that tune! :)

It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that a mate came back from New York and told me the tune was from Avenue Q. He’d been to see it on Broadway and said it’s even better on stage. I would love to know if they are intending to head to the UK.

Yeah, it’s just so god damn catchy.

I first heard that song aabout a year or more ago when someone sent me the WoW video. I thought that they’d makde the song as well, until I was watching a report on the BBC2 Culture Show and the song suddenly came up as well!

And yes, they are over here, they’re playing in the Noël Coward Theatre near Leicester Sq in London.

Hey sulz and thanks for stopping by.

I have spoken to my housemates earlier and we might go and see it sometime this year. Shame that there aren’t any DVD releases or any other similar videos anywhere. I’ve looked all over the internet.

And yes, I am reading all Harry Potter books again. I think the Harry Potter books are great, I absolutely love them. I’ve read them all many times before, but I am re reading them. I’m just about to make a post on that actually! What about you, do you like them?

@ sulz: I absolutely love Harry Potter. Can’t wait for the last book to come out. :)

@ jihadjoe: I never realised that there was much WoW machinima around. To be fair, I’ve never played WoW, but there is quite a bit of Machinima around from other games, like Halo/Halo 2, etc.
