Comment moderation

I’ve made changes to the comment moderation which will not make a difference to most of you. However, some will find that comments are being held in moderation until I approve them which can take up to 24hours. So there is no need to repost your comment if it isn’t displayed immediately.

Sorry about that.

So the over the top reactions have began…lol

Ermm not sure if this applys to WordPress.com but on Self-Hosted Blogs you can modify numerous options in order to cut down on stupid comments or whatever it may be.

Such as the abilty to Automatically Moderate Comments that have certain Words in them that may be offensive or whatever, plus restricting comments to Members only.

Moderating everything I’m not sure is a good idea but I can see why you might do it.

Hardly over the top. At the end of the day it’s my blog and I can choose which content or comment I want to see going up.

And yes, it’s the same with wordpress.com. As it stands certain IP addresses are being moderated.

I don’t really want to restrict it to members only. There are millions of non wordpress users out there and I have people commenting without accounts. I’ll see how this goes for now, but I know that moderating everythign is definitely NOT an option!

Sounds like I hit a Nerve there…but yea that is a problem and the fac tyou don’t want people signing up to every blog they want to Post on.

Nah, not a nerve really. Just stating the fact. ;)

I just think having to sign up to comment on a blog is annoying. I myself hate doing it. And would you sign up to wp.com just to comment on here? Saying that, you must have a wp.com account anyway for the Akismet API key, right?

    Yea I do.

It really is a Hard one to Call, on one hand there is benefits of say “building a community” of people who you know have something good and honest t share about your Blog Posts.

Then on the other hand it’s great to get an outside perspective on things, It’s a hard call in my view. As especially for people that allow annoymous comments, there’s the added prospect of Spam and all that to deal with. I already have to put up with stupid Pingbacks from sites that don’t even seem to be commenting at all on what I say. To have to deal with Comments I think for me at least is too far.

    Your choice…lol

    Holla!

My options are set to everyone having to enter their email and a name. Then there is the fact that I see the IP address of commenters which I can, if it’s the case of disruptive comments, check on other sites I’m on and see who they’re from.

Basically I just want people to feel free to comment and I want to have an active discussion on here.

Akismet is very good with spam and pingback of splogs and similar sites and I delete all but honest pingbacks [not that anyone ever links to my blog].

Anyone who made a disruptive comment on here in the last few days will find that their comment is held in moderation until it’s dealt with and I’ll see how that goes.

Gah! Another subtle form of resistance to try and thwart my attempts at taking over the world! I tell you it won’t work. :P

Btw, Comment moderation is a pain when you’re on dialup…
