I’m going to be busy in the next few months…

… playing many games.

Yep, it’s that time of year again, the Christmas rush is under way and many promising games are coming out. Sadly there are also way too many games I am looking forward to play, not to mention all the games that I am still playing, including Project Gotham Racing 4 and of course Halo 3.

So which games am I going to get over the next few months?

Carry on reading this post, however, be aware that there is a selection of Youtube videos and several images.

Tomb Raider Anniversary [Release 26.10., November via Downloads].

This game came out last week for the Xbox 360, however SCI are promising to release the game via downloadable content on Marketplace in November, so I’m holding out for that. You simply cannot beat Lara Croft. I’ve loved the series since the second game and have just dug out my ‘Legends’ copy this weekend to give it another spin. Reviewers say it’s a massive improvement to the series, so it’s looking very promising!

The Simpsons Game [Release 02.11.].

The Simpsons are everywhere this year; the series is in season 19, the film was released in Summer and now a new game. The game is unrelated to the film and infact appears to be more of a GTA/Sandbox type game in which items have to be collected, missions completed, but the player is able to roam around in between. It is also a parody of several other games, such as ‘Medal of Honor’ is ‘Medal of Homer’, ‘Everquest’ is ‘Neverquest’ and ‘Grand Theft Scratchy: Blood Island’ an obvious reference to ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’. The demo level released a few weeks back is funny and promises a great game.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga [Release 9.11.].

A few years back I’ve fallen in love with the Star Wars films, the story and pretty much everything related to it. I simply love the games of recent years, including the ‘Jedi Knight’ series, the ‘Knights of the Old Republic’ series and of course ‘Lego Star Wars’. It all started with Lego Star Wars which was released back in 2005 and featured the ‘new trilogy’, Episode I-III with a minor bonus level set in Episode IV. A sequel featuring the ‘original trilogy’, Episode IV-VI followed in 2006 after the first one was immensely successful and received great reviews. On the Xbox 360 version it was also possible to download the characters of the first game.

This new one features all six films and has revamped and extra levels not present before. The most exciting addition however is the introduction of Co-op via Xbox Live. A must buy!

Assassin’s Creed [Release 16.11.].

I’ve been very interested in this game for a very long time. It’s all about being an assassin during the crusades combined with beautiful graphics and big accessible cities. And I’m still looking forward to this game, however with all the delays to it [it was meant to be released in Spring '07] and the continuous over exposure with countless videos I am definitely not as hyped as I used to be. That didn’t stop me from preordering the special edition, including a figurine of Altair, the main character, though!

Kane and Lynch Dead Men [Release 23.11.].

I first heard of this game last year around the time ‘Hitman: Blood Money was released. I was intrigued as it was made by the same people that made Hitman and had a new approach including two vastly different characters and what seemed to be an intriguing story. Couple delays and videos and news later and I’m again not that hyped any more. It seems to be much more of a shooter than I imagined and the characters appear to be very similar. Nevertheless, it seems to be highly polished and it does still intrigue me to an extent.

Mass Effect [Release 23.11.].

Only 24 days to go until this game finally comes out. Everyone who knows me knows just how much I go on and on and on about it and cannot wait for it to come out. This game infact deserves it’s own post if not it’s own blog dedicated to it.

It is created by the same people that made two of my all time favourite games, ‘Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic’ one and two and Jade Empire which sadly was way too short.

The game is set in the future where humanity has discovered an abandoned alien lab on Mars thus allowing them to use the technology for faster space travel. With it came the discovery of other alien races, the council and enemies. The pre story is explained in depth in the book ‘Mass Effect; Revelation’ which came out a couple of months ago and is well worth a read even if you’re not intending to get the game.

Mass Effect is an RPG looking to revolutionise gaming. It consists of several planets, many characters to interact with and a compelling story.

Only 24 days to go..

Too many games, too little time!

Out of these I’ve only played the Tomb Raider series. Btw, I’m getting a PS2 for Diwali! :D

    Tomb Raider is great.

So what games are you getting, have you got?

And you don’t have to wait much longer. [Yes, I had no idea what Diwali was and had to google it..]

The Simpsons game looked good, until the demo came out and I realised it was nothing more than a very old gen platforming game. Early reviews suggest the same.

Shall I paste you the whole list? :D WWE: SmackDown vs Raw, Gran Tourismo 4, GTA: San Andreas, Shadow of Colossus and Burnout 3: Takedown. Any more you’d like to recommend ? :)

  5. Posted October 31, 2007 at 12:05 pm | Permalink

I very much love the Simpsons and even though the game feels rather generic the licence makes up for it.

That’s a good list there. I love GTA. I’d recommend GTA Vice City as well [play that before San Andreas though] which is one of my favourite games of all times.

What about God of War and Bully?

  6. Posted October 31, 2007 at 12:23 pm | Permalink

There was a PC Simpsons game [I think] called something like Bart’s revenge. Not a critics favourite. I’m not a Simpson fan, but I might get a game if its available. :)

I have GoW on my list, but I’ll be getting it later. Never even heard about Bully, though. :P

Thanks for teh info, Vice City added! :D

  7. Posted October 31, 2007 at 1:06 pm | Permalink

Have a look out for Simpsons Hit and Run, that was out on all sorts of platforms including PS2.

Vice City is just simply amazing, have a look at this post to see the intro: http://carocat.co.uk/2007/03/30/gta-intros/

It’s basically set in the 80′s in Miami. There’s also Vice City Stories out which is the continuation. Order of play should be: Vice City, Vice City Stories, San Andreas. :)

Bully is by Rockstar, the people that made GTA. It’s an open game, like GTA, but you’re a kid in a private school bullying and being bullied. Sounds boring, but it’s great.

Oooo…the Simpson’s Game looks good and so does Assassin’s Creed. Might get that for Christmas..

Assassins Creed will be amazing. Big cities, jumping everywhere… :)

  10. Posted October 31, 2007 at 1:25 pm | Permalink

Lol. What I thought. Especially since I’ve now got the PS3 so the graphics should be pretty good too!

  11. Posted October 31, 2007 at 1:33 pm | Permalink

    I didn’t realise you had a PS3? Why not a 360?

  12. Posted October 31, 2007 at 4:01 pm | Permalink

Brother. He wanted the ps3 more than the 360.

  13. Posted October 31, 2007 at 4:28 pm | Permalink

Why would anyone prefer a PS3 over a 360?! There are hardly any games out for it…

  14. Posted November 1, 2007 at 1:20 am | Permalink

I guess it’s the whole “we’ve grown up with a playstation” thing. To be truthful I absolutely hate the PS3, swear Sony haven’t really thought it out. Especially with memory cards. You can’t insert the memory cards from the PS1 and PS2 onto the PS3 so you have to play alllllllllll your games from scratch.

  15. Posted November 1, 2007 at 7:09 am | Permalink

I suppose. It’s just that with the lack of games out for it at the moment [a year after it came out!] I really don’t know why so many people still consider it..

But Sony have quite a few people that buy it just because it’s Sony..

So what games do you play at the moment then?

W00T~! Finally Akismet learns the hard way of blocking his Geeked Up Mightiness! Take that!

If you check your spam queue you’ll be surprised to see my comments in there.. 3-4 of them. I gave up trying yesterday as I was being blocked on all wp.com blogs. There’s a couple blocked on Sha’s blog and more! lol.

Oh no. You should’ve emailed me or something. I decided to delete abotu 1500 spam comments because I didn’t want to check them all manually!

    Sorry. :(

No problems Cat. They were just the same thing really to tell you that I’m getting Vice City with San Andreas. :)

  20. Posted November 1, 2007 at 8:26 am | Permalink

Woohoo, just make sure you play Vice City first, otherwise you might not want to play it.

  21. Posted November 1, 2007 at 11:03 am | Permalink

Lol. I’ve got Heavenly Sword, Ridge Rider, Pirates of the Caribbean and Resistance of man (or something like that). Still in the process of getting good games for it. Surprisingly I think Sony are trying to copy nintendo with their motion sensor controllers. And yep you’re going to get those people who buy it because it’s sony.

Cat: Okey dokey! Vice City first, then a bit of wwe, then a bit of SA then a bit of WWE then a bit of SA on and on until I finsh them. :P

Sha: And yep you’re going to get those people who buy it because it’s sony.
The only thing I’ll ever buy with the name Sony is a mobile phone. I looove my W550i! :D [Yes that was a cheap plug] and thanks for unspamming my comments. :)

  24. Posted November 1, 2007 at 8:43 pm | Permalink

LOL. Still a bit annoyed with PS3 still. Especially the fact I have to play all my games from scratch because I’m broke to afford the adaptor for my memory card.

  25. Posted November 2, 2007 at 11:05 am | Permalink

    How did you break it?!

  26. Posted November 3, 2007 at 3:43 pm | Permalink

Lol. Broke as in lack of cash to buy it. Sony are very expensive for accessories it turns out. A new controller costs £30.

  27. Posted November 3, 2007 at 3:51 pm | Permalink

Oh, misread your post… See, it’d all be easier with a 360. ;)
