The Simpsons

So many people say that the Simpsons have not been funny in many years. Now I’ve always disagreed, there have been many quality episodes in later years. Just to mention a few:

Homer Simpson, this is your wife: Homer and Marge take part in a program similar to Wife Swap and Marge spends her time with Charles Heathbar, played by Ricky Gervais. The character is very similar to the character he played on ‘The Office’, David Brent. There are some embarrassing scenes, including Gervais writing and singing a love song to Marge who then tells him she’s in love with Homer..

And the episode also had the ‘real life’ intro:

The Seemingly Never-Ending Story: The Simpsons are trapped in a cave and Lisa starts telling a story which then branches into a story by Mr Burns, later Moe and Mrs Krabappel and a goat.

Marge Gamer: Marge discovers the internet and with it the fictional MMORPG [Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game] “Earthland Realms” which leans heavily on World of Warcraft and Everquest. Many Springfield citizens are also playing the game, such as Moe, Mrs Krabappel, Mr Burns and Bart who is a ShadowKnight who is feared by everyone.

Marge: My son is an evil knight! The most successful evil knight in all the Earthland Realms! Not bad!

24 Minutes: A reference to the series 24 involving some kids planning to release a stink bomb in the school during bake sale whilst Lisa and the CTU [Counter Truancy Unit] are trying to stop them. It uses the split screen, the style and even has a guest appearance by Jack Bauer!

Bart: Lisa, are you a secure line?
Lisa: I am. You’re using a Bluetooth cell phone, the most vulnerable communications device known to man!
Bart: But it looks so cool! Listen, there’s a mole inside CTU.
Lisa: A MOLE?
Bart: Yes, now I don’t have much time so I’m just gonna come out and say his name. So get ready to know his name. His name is the following. M- [Martin knocks Bart unconscious]

Another episode in season 19, Homerazzi, has the probably best intro so far in the Simpsons. The evolution as shown by Homer:

And from another episode:

Bart: …And then I had this dream that my whole family was just cartoon characters, and that our success had led to some crazy propaganda network called “Fox News”.

The Simpsons have been around for over 20 years now and is in season 19 with currently 406 episodes. And at least in my opinion they’re still funny..
