I ran into such a problem last year with no sites other than the google india and firefox home page coming up. It worked fine in Ubuntu for a while but the same thing started happening. I’d suggest calling your ISP because if nothing was working you wouldn’t be able to download. Its probably a network problem/error from your ISP.

this might be a bit silly to ask, but did you ask your internet service provider? i don’t know much about this kind of stuff really…

Are you on bt? Might be wise to ring them up and ask. If not, I can check where they are having problems and email you back about it?

I had a problem like this about a month or so back…tried the final option & did a full system restore…yup it worked.

My problem seems the same as yours…most sites wouldn’t load even after I cleared cache & cookies…I even went back to a restore point earlier in the year!

I’ve been having similar problems with my internet and I coaxed my internet guy to fix it. Try to make them check their routers, this happens because of faulty routers as far as I know. Also since more than one people are having the problem, that suggests that the problem doesn’t lie on your end.

I have no personally experience with something like this (unless you count not having network drivers installed). Can you try booting off a Linux Live CD and seeing if you can surf normally? If you can, I’d bet almost anything it’s something in your current Windows install. Did anything change on your computer about the time you started having issues? AV/Firewall updates?

Only other thing I can think of is MTU size. I won’t pretend to understand it. My networking knowledge is basically non-existent. But I’ve seen it talked about in situations similar to these.

But, if other people on the same ISP are having issues, then that points to something on their end.

Try a proxy server?
