Thank you

Thanks to you for all the help you gave me in my previous post. I ended up formatting my laptop and reinstalling everything. Something that was overdue anyway I guess. Good news is I have a lot more space now!

As to answer some of the comments:

katm: I didn’t change anything which is why it was puzzling me so much. Literally from one moment to another it stopped working.

I don’t think switching to something like Linux is the way to go, I was reading a little bit about it a few weeks back and it confused me. A lot.

ish: My router had been playing up, but more along the lines of randomly restarting itself. This has been fixed since I updated the firmware a while before running into the problems I had with the net.

dmosbon: Just what I did; I saw it as a last option as it’s so much hassle!

Sha: Nope, I’m on Bethere and I definitely recommend them. Great broadband, excellent customer service and it’s cheap.

sulz: Yes, i did ask them and they said they couldn’t see anything wrong.

Ashish: See above.

Sha: I have no idea where those places are! Everything’s fine in my area though.

Again, thanks a lot. :)

Good to see you back and that too with a festive hat on the cat. See, that rhymes! Okay, I’m gonna go bask in my glory then. :P

Even I like reformatting my computer. Even though it’s a pain that you lose all of the installed stuff, it’s actually good because you’ve learned new lessons from bad softwares and will not install them again leading to more free disk space and better performance. I still can’t believe it was Zone Alarm that was screwing up my computer earlier. I was actually trying to figure out what was making it so slow by using Zone Alarm and never realized that my tool was the culprit lol.

I agree here with Ish…you’ll never work out what is causing problems with your PC if you have numerous software app. installed. It just makes sense to do a reinstall & put back only the essential software you need.

    Cat am glad your back…:)

Yeah. I’m stuck with BT for 18 months. Only good thing about this is the unlimited downloads and the free 250 wi fi mins a month. Free internet in uni yay.

@ ish: The hassle just doesn’t make any educational thing worth it. Seriously, it’s just annoying I think. And I still fail to believe I had anything bad on here…

I heard bad things about Zone Alarm, so I’m staying clear of that.

And it’s all about my [paint modified] avatar!!

@ dmosbon: Thank you very much.

@ Sha: I would never go with BT to be honest, too much hassle, to many people that had problems, etc. But then again my ex housemates didn’t want to change from Plusnet [our last ISP, ironically bought up by BT] and I only got Bethere when it was my decision and I was alone responsible.

@ Ashish: Thanks and I’m experimenting. Thinking of changing it on a more regular basis as I can’t think of one that I like.

You never know about these viruses Cat. Apparently I still have one on my computer that not only screws up my internet but also of three others because it’s over uploading. I’ve tried many Anti-viruses and reformatted the computer just a month ago but the problem persists. Whenever I complaint to my ISP, he says I have a virus and that he’ll come and check my computer but he never turns up and the internet starts working. I don’t know what the deal with them is.

Well, three scanners said I didnt have one!

My ISP is good, they sent an engineer round and everything.

Cat: Something along the lines of Zyber? :P

ish: Dude its not a virus, its a spyware. Because whenever something is “dialing home” got to be that or a Trojan. Do you have any free games installed that ask you to install some toolbar or something? Or perhaps something you torrented off the net is infected?
