10 things I have noticed about 24

A few days ago I started watching 24 season 3 and am currently on episode 19. These are some observations I’ve had regarding 24 as a whole:

  1. Most repeated phrases on 24 include: “Is there a problem?” and “I’m ordering you” both followed by meaningful looks and drawn out silences.
  2. Jack Bauer always seems to suffer worst at the beginning and gets better towards the end.
  3. Jack Bauer and other field agents always seem to have clothes everywhere from cars to their offices..
  4. No one actually seems to be doing any work, unless the camera is on them.
  5. The employees in CTU work 24h and have been up for even longer with driving to the offices yet they never have cups of coffee on their desks?
  6. In the same sense they don’t appear tired either. For example Wayne Palmer or Kim Bauer.
  7. The ringtone of the phones annoys me greatly. However, it appears that I am the only one thinking so as @simonbarker and @INFECTEDPB503 even have it as their phone ringtone..
  8. It’s not realistic to all be happening the same day. The drawn out conversations, the repeated convos, the distances they travel.. I suppose this might only been noticeable as much as I’ve been watching them back to back rather than being spread out over several months.
  9. It’s a lot like Alias especially seeing how small the actual universe is with the same players reoccuring all the time and everyone and their dog being a double agent some way or another. Example: Mandy, Nina, Sherry..
  10. I wouldn’t actually want them in charge, after all they make such a mess out of every situation. Just looking at Season 3:
      Prison break, including dead/beaten guards.
Delta team members that were ambushed.
      The hotel.
      Ryan Chappelle.

Yes, it is a good show, but there are definitely flaws, too!

There’s no time to notice the flaws in 24! That’s an order! -Jack Bauer :)

But in true 24 fashion I’ll have to disobey that order and go rogue without any consequences! ;)

I find it puzzling just how much I’m willing to forgive 24 it’s flaws whilst watching it. The acting is often dreadful and the script often worse, but it’s pace and energy is just so damn addictive that before long you’re entirely wrapped up in it. I don’t know if it’s all just smoke and mirrors (ie there’s so much going on to distract you, and the plot is so labyrinthine, that you’re too busy working out all of that to notice it) or just a wilful suspension of taste, but it does what it does well. So the script can’t really be that bad, can it? (The acting definitely is).

As much as I dislike certain parts of it, others are great and the overall story definitely is.

Although I could do with less double agents and I do think the way they’ve basically split the day in half [bear in mind, I've only watched seasons 1-3 so far] isn’t really that great and I’d like to have just one story overall.

But any show that shocks me [such as Ryan Chapelle's death] definitely is great.
