A worrying event for a blogger

In all the years I’ve been online I’ve had some bad reactions from people that disagreed with me online or simply wanted to annoy me on Xbox Live.

Luckily, with having taken so much of my online identity ‘offline’ to Reading Tweetups and the like, I’ve not experienced anything bad so far. There were a few random moments where someone would say they had seen me somewhere weeks before and it did make me change my ways of only tweeting about my location if I was in a public, safe place with people I knew. However, mostly I have been lucky.

@Dazmando hasn’t been. It seems wrong comparing myself to him; I have this blog for myself and, in the past year, mainly as an extension for Twitter whereas he uses it primarily for political blogging. He was recently shouted at in the street:

“Dazmando,Dazmando, you should be hanged, people like you make me sick.”
Me: “Who is that?”
Voice: “You earn £40k and your not happy, you should hang.”
Me: “What, where are you?”
Voice: “Go F’ yourself.”
I started to walk in the direction of the voice: “Talk to me about it?”
Couldn’t find anyone.

This was all related to him blogging about earning 40k and complaining that, with the coalition government, he was struggling to raise his family.

Yet that shouldn’t matter. He was being attacked by someone on the street who decided to stay an anonymous coward simply shouting abuse. What does it matter how much Dazmando earns? He is still in the boat as everyone else having to support himself and his family. He shouldn’t have to be made to apologise!

Shame on the person that shouted at him, there are better ways to vent frustration.
