Kitten update

The kittens are now one week old, they have names and the countdown to them opening their eyes has started.

I am very impressed in the way Phoebe allows me to get close to them. I mean I have only touched them once, but she leaves the room when I’m in here and has no problem with me being next to them when she isn’t here. That is very odd, considering I read in a few places that cats are very, very protective of their kittens, even if they are otherwise mellow. Well, Phoebe isn’t.

I’m at the moment planning my room to be safe for them, a plan which is now labelled ‘Operation Kitten-Safe’. It involves moving my bed out [I’ll have to sleep on a mattress on the floor], tying all the cables up [not too sure how yet] and removing anything dangerous or anything they could endanger themselves with. It may be early to start with it, but I want to make sure that I am well prepared. After all the next few months are going to be stressful.

I should hopefully receive some money in two weeks as well which is when I’ll hit the petshops and buy everything! Well, not everything, just the essentials:

  • 2 litter trays
  • 8 bowls [4 water, 4 food]
  • a big sleeping bed for them
  • a climbing tree thing
  • enough kitten food to feed an army [of 4 kittens!]
  • 4 collars
  • several cat toys

And that is just the start….

I’ll take some more photos of them this weekend and possibly try and take a little video as well, although there isn’t much to see at the moment. That will all change once they open their eyes next week.

Talking about kitten and cats, many have commented on my current avatar. Here is the image in it’s full glory. It made me laugh a lot when I first saw it as it was very fitting for the situation when I needed it.

Sometimes it does indeed feel good to be a gangsta! :D

Oh and last but not least, I hope everyone remembered to put the clocks one hour forward last night?

Phoebe should let you near her kittens. After all…you’re top cat!

Sounds like your new kittens are going to neaten up your cables for you. :P

And we over in the States had to move our clocks ahead 3 weeks ago which meant for the last 3 weeks I’ve had to set all my Web 2.0 type clocks to a different time zone rather than my actual geographic one. What a pain in the butt! I say forget all this daylight savings.standard time crap and just leave the stupid clocks alone.

Wouldn’t that mess up the computers of the world. :D

I wasn’t aware you changed your time at a different time than we did over here. I thought it was all at the same time. I can imagine how annoying this must have been though.

As for Daylight saving, I never understood the real point of it anyway….

Well she should let me near and she does, but severa of the many things I read about cats in the last weeks indicated that it doesn’t matter how close you’re with your cat, she most likely won’t let you near.

On a sidenote, I had little Sam climb on my hand today. They already have quite sharp claws. :D

Cleaning up.I heard from someone that cat hair have some electrical properties that can destroy gadgets such as computers etc. if they come in contact.

I don’t know if it’s true but you might wanna keep them away from the 360 and all.

I’m sure cat hairs don’t. I mean my cat has been roaming my room for months with no problem.

Still looking into a way to get rid of my cables. Anyone got any ideas?

That sounds a LOT of work. I usually take the cables that go together and bind them using a strong rubber band. Easy and nice. But you’ve got to plan it good since one small push and boom! :D Could also try some of those wires that are used to bind packages or wires themselves. [I don’t know the exact word but you generally find these in new computer parts used for packaging]. We use Cello tape at home … not a good option. :D

I don’t think DST applies over here…. and anyways never bothered to understand what it was anyways despite Sha’s explanation a loooooong time back! :D

You don’t have DST over there? It must seem like a pretty ridiculous thing to you then.

The problem with just using wirses [I’m using cable ties already] is that the kittens will still be able to get to them, play with them and eat them which is what I’m trying to avoid. :P

Go wirefree [a Cooooostly option concerning a lot of $$$$ {No Pound sign. :P}] or use Pipes for permanent wiring… kind of like how they did house-wiring. :D

Wireless is not an option and apart from 2 internet related cables, the rest are about 8-10 power cables from and to all areas of the room. :(

Well you are going to have a hardtime for that…. try putting huge posters of ferocious dogs near the wires if nothing helps! :P

Haha, I doubt that that would work. I’ll just have to hope for the best I suppose.
