I have been knitting a fair bit in the last year, even though that’s not necessarily reflected in my Ravelry profile which I’m finding quite difficult to keep updated!
Projects I have completed since October:
- A blue scarf for my housemate as a Christmas present.
- A green scarf as a present for a friend which, as it turns out, is very much like the Starbucks green!
- A red scarf for another friend of mine.
- A pink scarf which I’ve since started unravelling again and started knitting again more narrowly [cutting down from 32 stitches to 16].
Projects I’ve started since October:
- A set of green wristers, though I’ve abandoned that attempt for now!
- A grey/purple staggered scarf.
So there is a distinct pattern there – scarves.
I learned how to knit when I was younger and I don’t know what any of the two stitches I know how to do are called so doing patterns is quite difficult for me. Most of my knitting is because I’m enjoying it whilst doing other things, like talking on the phone to a friend, meeting friends for a coffee or watching TV, so for the time being I’m fairly content with just doing the same thing over and over again, especially as I’ve now started resorting to different colour patterns.
There are some things I’m planning to knit in the future though not necessarily this year:

My big project for the rest of the year, however, will be a blanket. In reality I think it will take me longer than just this year to do as I’m planning a 200x150cm blanket with multicoloured squares each 20×20 stitches. Updates on that to follow!
I’ve also finally done something with my knitting page. It includes my Ravelry profile, profile description and various knitting pictures though I will have to take some more of recently completed work.

Oh wow! Are you working from a pattern? That could be a good sampler and break the monotony of using the same stitch, though you’d have to be careful about gauge (or not). Just focus on doing the square and the blanket will follow.

No pattern, just basic knit stitch 20 stitches wide and square. Also using the same wool type, so I don’t have to adjust stitches.
I get disheartened easily when something doesn’t go my way and knitting mostly really is just something to keep me occupied so I figure that having a pattern for such a big project will just risk making a mistake and then either not knowing how to fix it or putting it on the backburner.
The original idea was to use wool leftovers from me and other friends and just have a very patchwork style blanket, but there’s so much to keep in mind then..
Maybe another time, the way I see it I still have many years of knitting in front of me!

I hear ya on the pattern thing!
All that 10r3st rt p2 hook2;h/f st15 blah blah… it’s fairly daunting double dutch alright. I used to understand it and even managed to squeeze out a funky cardigan once but it’s not like riding a bike, I’m in scarf territory too these days!!

My friend keeps reading patterns to me and it just goes way above my head!
And there’s nowt wrong with scarves though I think all my friends will own one of mine in a few years!

The joy of patterns is that they are knit one.row.at.a.time. Don’t let them intimidate you. (Reading patterns? Odd hobby!) :)

But it means having to constantly check a piece of paper versus just knitting away!

There are simple enough patterns that once you start them, you can put the paper away and techniques for dealing with patterns that have tricky bits. But everyone does whatever is comfortable for them. No worries!
